Over the past 20 years, more than 200 ships (above 200 meters in length) sank due to heavy weather and sea conditions and, in particular, due to rough waves also known as freak waves. This has caused numerous victims and great environmental disasters. Such extreme phenomena also concern offshore platforms which are designed to resist to given sea condition (e.g. waves of 15 meters at most).

REMOCEAN can determine, with high precision, information such as dominant wave length, direction and period, significant wave height and superficial currents, with an inexpensive, widespread and very often mandatory technology such as X-band radars. This may lead to a wide range of profitable markets and applications.

Remocean has been selected as the best (first place) businnes idea of suthern Italy during the national business competion “Il talento delle idee“, promoted by UniCredit Group, together with the Territorial Committees and Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria, to boost and support the fostering and growth of new business enterprises.

Six local Italian areas was identified: Triveneto, Nord Ovest, Emilia Romagna-Toscana, Umbria-Marche-Lazio, Abruzzo-Molise-Basilicata-Puglia-Campania-Calabria, Sardegna-Sicilia).
The best business proposals of every area will be granted tailored financing, according to the Group credit policies, and a Master/Training program, of a high standard.
The winners at local levels, moreover, will be candidates for the national cash awards granted to the three best projects on a national basis, and will have access to a set of selected potential investors.
National awards will be granted during one of the General Meetings of Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria planned in 2010 (Santa Margherita Ligure, GE, in June 2010, and Capri, NA, in October 2010).

Remocean is presenting its sceitnfic results at CIESM, the international 40th conference on Mediterranea Science Commission.

CIESM is dedicated to research at the frontiers of marine science. Understanding the processes and changes that govern the functioning of the Mediterranean Sea and affect its interaction with growing coastal populations is one of its primary missions.

Remocean is finalist for the national business competion “InventiON“, promoted by Alintec in collaboration with Il Sole24Ore.

The competion is dedicated to innovative technological inventions and ideas that aim at improving quality of life and that may find applications in the fields of  renewable enery, health, ICT, art and design.
